CM Mohan Charan Majhi Emphasises Importance of SIR for Removing Errors and Ensuring Accuracy in Electoral Rolls, Says Clean Voter Lists Are Vital for the Democratic Process

Bhubaneswar,  Oct 27 [UDN}:     Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, stating that the exercise is essential for maintaining a clean, accurate and reliable voter list and ensuring free and fair elections.

The Chief Minister emphasised that duplicate entries, outdated records and the names of deceased persons remaining on voter lists can affect the accuracy of electoral rolls. He said the SIR process helps identify discrepancies, remove duplicate registrations and update voter information following deaths or changes in residence.

At the same time, Majhi stressed that the revision must be conducted fairly and carefully to ensure that no eligible voter is wrongly excluded from the electoral list. He underlined that protecting every eligible citizen’s right to vote is fundamental to democracy and that accurate electoral rolls are essential for public confidence in the electoral process.

The Chief Minister’s remarks on October 12, 2026, came amid opposition protests and demands for the cancellation of the SIR exercise. He reiterated that the process should strengthen electoral integrity while safeguarding the voting rights of all eligible citizens.
