Floodwater has inundated several villages and contaminated local water sources, leaving many families struggling to access clean drinking water. The situation has also raised concerns over the possible spread of waterborne diseases.

Mobile Water Treatment Vans Reach Flood-Hit Areas

The Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department has taken emergency measures to address the drinking water shortage by deploying water treatment vans in affected areas.

According to reports, the vehicles have reached Ganjam district, including the Sanakhemundi area, to facilitate the supply of treated drinking water to residents.

The mobile units are expected to provide an alternative source of safe water for communities whose regular drinking water sources have been affected by the floods.

Floodwater Contamination Raises Health Concerns

Heavy rainfall associated with Cyclone Arnab triggered flooding across several parts of Ganjam, inundating villages and affecting local water infrastructure.

As floodwater entered wells and other water sources, concerns over contamination increased. Access to safe drinking water has consequently become a major challenge for affected households.

Health concerns have also emerged over the possibility of waterborne illnesses spreading in areas where residents may be exposed to contaminated water.

Government Steps Up Emergency Water Supply

The deployment of water treatment vans is aimed at ensuring that flood-affected families receive safe drinking water until their regular sources become usable again.

The initiative is particularly important in areas where flooding has disrupted normal water supply arrangements and contaminated local sources.

Safe Drinking Water Becomes a Priority in Relief Operations

As relief and recovery efforts continue in Ganjam, ensuring access to clean drinking water remains a key priority.

The mobile treatment facilities are expected to provide immediate support to affected communities while efforts continue to address the wider impact of the floods.
