Malkangiri, June 10: With the objective of including every eligible citizen of the district in the voter list and ensuring a transparent electoral process, the Malkangiri district administration has launched a major initiative. A special voter awareness vehicle, titled the “Awareness Rath,” was flagged off today from the Collector’s office premises.
The campaign has been launched under the Election Commission of India’s SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) programme. Through this initiative, the Special Summary Revision of the electoral roll will be expanded more extensively across the district.
District Election Officer and Collector of Malkangiri, Prathmesh Arvind Rajeshirke, attended the programme as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the awareness vehicle by waving the green flag.
Several senior administrative officials of the district were present during the launch. Among them were Additional District Magistrate (Administration) and Electoral Registration Officer of the 147-Chitrakonda Assembly Constituency, Somnath Pradhan; Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) and Additional District Election Officer, Bedabar Pradhan; and Sub-Collector as well as ERO of the 146-Malkangiri Assembly Constituency, Duryodhan Bhoi, along with officers and employees from various departments of the Collectorate.
On this occasion, Collector Rajeshirke stated that every vote is invaluable in a democracy. He said that the Special Summary Revision process has been initiated to ensure that no eligible citizen in the district is deprived of exercising their voting rights.
He further informed that the awareness vehicle will travel from village to village to spread awareness, while Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households to distribute forms. The Collector appealed to all residents of the district to cooperate with the campaign by checking their names in the voter list and registering new names so as to help the administration prepare a transparent and accurate electoral roll.
The administration has stepped directly into the field to reach not only urban voters but also those living in rural areas.
Soon after the launch of the awareness vehicle, Collector Rajeshirke and the Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) visited MV-7 village under the Malkangiri Assembly Constituency. There, they reviewed the ongoing voter list revision and distribution of forms for new voter registration being carried out by Booth Level Officers. The officials themselves personally distributed forms among the public.
They also educated local residents about their democratic rights and urged all eligible persons to ensure that their names are included in the voter list.
The district administration has appealed to the public that anyone who has attained 18 years of age, or those whose voter cards contain errors such as incorrect name, age, or address, should immediately contact their local BLO and take advantage of this Special Summary Revision campaign.
