Bhubaneswar, July 11 [UDN}: Goat farming is an easy and reliable means of earning higher profits with low investment in rural areas. It is not merely a traditional occupation but also an important pillar of the rural economy. To make farmers financially self-reliant, the Department of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development has taken a major initiative. The government is now providing extensive financial assistance for setting up small-scale goat farming units across the state. Farmers engaged in goat rearing are eligible to receive subsidies ranging from 50% to 60%. This scheme is helping small and marginal farmers improve their economic condition while strengthening their livelihoods.
The initiative is expected to encourage more rural youth to take up livestock-based entrepreneurship. Goat farming also generates regular income through the sale of milk, meat, and breeding stock. With government support and proper management, goat rearing can become a sustainable source of livelihood for rural families. The scheme is playing a significant role in boosting animal husbandry and rural development in the state.
