Devotees Gather for Maa Maulima’s Yatra at Makeshift Shrine in Korukonda

Korukonda March, 2:The third day of Maa Maulima’s yatra is being observed today at Korukonda headquarters in Malkangiri district. The Goddess is seated at a temporary pavilion near the temple and is receiving prayers from devotees. 

Yesterday, the Goddess was worshipped throughout the day at the temporary mandap at Mandia Bhata. A large number of devotees gathered from far and wide. Village deities from nearby villages also arrived and received worship from devotees during the festival.

As this yatra is held once every two years, thousands of devotees from within the district, outside the district, and even from neighboring states come seeking the blessings of Maa. Devotees have deep faith that their wishes are fulfilled by the Goddess.

Yesterday evening, Maa Maulima was taken in a grand procession from the temporary mandap at Mandia Bhata. Accompanied by traditional musical instruments, fireworks, and a large gathering of devotees, the Goddess went around the town, receiving worship at various places. Around 2 a.m., she was ceremonially seated at the temporary pavilion within the temple premises.
A major attraction of last night’s procession was the participation of more than 40 masked traditional performers depicting various deities from the Korapad area of Koraput district. Their traditional dances, folk music, and fireworks created a vibrant and festive atmosphere throughout the village.

Goddess will remain seated at the temporary mandap for two days to bless devotees. On Wednesday morning, the idols brought from different villages will return to their respective temples.

Many traders from within and outside the district have set up stalls to sell their products during the yatra. Every evening, devotees visiting for darshan also enjoy घूमing in the Meena Bazaar and various amusement rides.

To maintain law and order, police forces have been deployed. Volunteers are also assisting in crowd management. Members of the Yatra Committee were seen helping devotees from outside areas to ensure smooth darshan.

Various entertainment programs are being organized every night during the festival.
