Dozens of Couples Tie the Knot at State-Sponsored Ceremony in Malkangiri

Malkangiri:  April. 27:  In a heartwarming initiative, 17 underprivileged couples were married at the Kalyani Mandap in Malkangiri district under the state government’s Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana.
Local MLA Narsingh Madkami symbolically acted as a father figure and performed the kanyadaan for 17 brides, highlighting the spirit of social responsibility. On the other hand, Chitrakonda MLA Mangu Khilla added a festive touch by arriving with a traditional wedding procession accompanied by drum beats.
The ceremony brought together 17 grooms and 17 brides selected from economically weaker families across the district. This initiative aims to support such families and prevent issues like elopement or social distress caused by financial constraints.
Under this scheme, each newly married couple is entitled to financial assistance of ₹60,000 from the government, ensuring a secure start to their married life.
Overall, the program not only facilitated marriages but also reinforced social harmony and support for underprivileged communities.
