New Delhi: Sept 21 [UDN}:Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has arrived in New Delhi, where he was accorded a warm welcome upon his arrival in the Indian capital. President Marcos is visiting India to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit as the current Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The Philippine President was received by Union Minister Anupriya Patel in New Delhi. His visit assumes significance as the Philippines is currently holding the ASEAN chairmanship, and his participation at the BRICS Summit is expected to provide an opportunity to highlight the perspectives and priorities of the ASEAN region on matters of regional and global importance.
President Marcos Jr.’s presence at the summit also reflects the growing engagement between India and the Philippines and the broader relationship between India and Southeast Asian countries. The BRICS platform brings together major emerging economies and provides an important forum for discussions on economic cooperation, development, trade, investment and other international issues.
During his stay in India, President Marcos is expected to take part in the summit-level proceedings and interact with leaders and representatives of participating countries. His participation, in his capacity as the current ASEAN Chair, is also expected to add a Southeast Asian perspective to discussions on strengthening cooperation among developing and emerging economies.
The arrival of the Philippine President in New Delhi marks an important diplomatic engagement between India and the Philippines and comes at a time when India is placing greater emphasis on strengthening its partnerships with ASEAN and other countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
