Jeypore, Sept. 25 (UDN): A late-night fire at the Government College of Art and Crafts in Jeypore damaged computers and other institutional equipment, with officials suspecting an electrical short circuit as the likely cause.
The blaze broke out on Thursday night and was detected after smoke was seen rising from the college premises, prompting an immediate emergency response.
College Principal Yudhisthir Mallick alerted the Fire Services as soon as the incident came to light. Firefighters from Jeypore rushed to the campus and brought the flames under control before they could spread to nearby classrooms and administrative sections.
Equipment Damaged
The fire destroyed several computers, electronic equipment and other college property. However, authorities have not yet completed an assessment of the total financial loss caused by the incident.
Probe Underway
Preliminary findings point to a possible electrical short circuit, but officials said a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the fire.
Authorities are also assessing the extent of the damage while examining the affected area as part of the ongoing inquiry.
