Bhawanipatna,Aug 26 [UDN}:: Former Lanjigarh MLA and former Chairman of the Special Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Council, Shivaji Majhi, passed away late Tuesday night at his native village of Danarguda in Bijepur.
A few days ago, Majhi had complained of chest pain and was initially taken to a hospital in Bhawanipatna for treatment. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for further medical care. After undergoing treatment, he was discharged and returned to his native village. However, his condition reportedly deteriorated, and he passed away on Tuesday night.
Shivaji Majhi had the distinction of being elected as the first MLA of the Lanjigarh Assembly constituency after the constituency was newly formed. During his political career, he worked extensively for the development of the tribal-dominated and remote areas of Lanjigarh and Thuamul Rampur.
Following the formation of the Special Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Council in Kalahandi district, Majhi served as its first Chairman. During his tenure, he undertook several initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic and developmental conditions of tribal and Dalit communities across the district.
Even after becoming an MLA, Majhi was known for maintaining a simple lifestyle. His approachable nature, strong public relations and affectionate personality made him highly popular among the people of the region. He remained closely connected with ordinary citizens and was respected for his simplicity and dedication to public service.
News of his demise has cast a pall of gloom across Kalahandi district. Leaders from various political parties, social workers and members of the public expressed deep sorrow over his death and offered their condolences. They prayed for the eternal peace of his departed soul and conveyed their sympathies to his bereaved family.
