Free Drinking Water Becomes Mandatory in Hotels and Restaurants Across Odisha as the State Government Implements a New Public Welfare Regulation

Bhubaneswar,  June 30 {UDN}:  The Odisha Government has issued a new directive making it mandatory for all hotels, restaurants, eateries, and food establishments across the state to provide free and safe drinking water to customers. Under the new regulation, every establishment must ensure that clean drinking water is readily available without charging any fee.

Authorities have clarified that this rule is compulsory for all businesses operating in the hospitality and food service sector. Any hotel or restaurant found refusing to provide free drinking water or violating the directive may face strict legal action from the concerned authorities. In serious cases, the establishment’s trade licence or operating licence may also be suspended or cancelled.
The move aims to safeguard consumer rights, improve access to safe drinking water, and ensure better public health and hospitality standards across Odisha. The government has warned business owners to comply with the directive, as inspections and enforcement measures will be carried out to ensure adherence to the new rules.
