Bhubaneswar, Sept 1 [UDN}:The 8th Pay Commission is progressing rapidly with consultations aimed at revising the salaries, allowances and pensions of central government employees and pensioners. As part of this process, the Commission is scheduled to hold official meetings with stakeholders and employee unions in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on August 31 and September 1, 2026.
The Commission, headed by former Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, is examining employees’ grievances, demands, working conditions and other service-related issues. More than 50 lakh central government employees and over 65 lakh pensioners are expected to benefit directly once the Commission’s recommendations are implemented.
The Commission is also scheduled to visit Chennai on September 7–8, Puducherry on September 9, Chandigarh from September 16–18, and Bengaluru on October 7–8. A visit to Central Railway in Mumbai is also planned to gain first-hand knowledge of railway employees’ working conditions.
Among the major issues being discussed are the fitment factor, revision of basic pay, development of a new salary structure in line with inflation and the cost of living, restructuring of allowances, pension reforms, employee morale and workplace facilities.
The 8th Pay Commission was constituted on November 3, 2025, and has been given 18 months to submit its recommendations. Accordingly, its report could be submitted to the government between February and May 2027.
However, the final implementation may take additional time. Based on the experience of previous Pay Commissions, implementation of recommendations can take around two to three years after the report is submitted. Therefore, employees may potentially receive the full benefits of the 8th Pay Commission by 2029 or 2030, depending on the government’s approval and implementation process.
