Government Moves to Align English Names with Odia Phonetics Across the State

Bhubaneswar, April. 27:  The Revenue and Disaster Management Department has issued a public notification regarding the correction of English spellings of place names in accordance with their original Odia pronunciation.
Earlier, through a public notice, the department had invited suggestions and proposals from the general public and public representatives to restore the original Odia names of various districts, district headquarters, subdivisions, tehsils, and blocks, where the officially used English names were found to be distorted versions of the original Odia names.
In response, numerous suggestions and recommendations have been received from public representatives and citizens across the state. All these proposals have been reviewed by a committee chaired by eminent Odia litterateur and Padma Bhushan awardee Pratibha Ray.
The recommendations finalized by the committee have now been placed in the public domain for awareness, and further opinions and suggestions are being invited.
Public representatives and citizens are requested to submit their views and well-considered suggestions within one month starting from April 22. These can be sent to the Revenue and Disaster Management Department at Lok Seva Bhavan, Bhubaneswar, either by post or via email at:

This initiative aims to preserve linguistic authenticity and ensure that place names accurately reflect their original Odia pronunciation.
