Grassroots NGO Strengthens Efforts to Protect Rights, Promote Dignity and Empower Poor and Marginalised Communities

Bhubaneswar,  Aug 18 [UDN}:  Chhatrapati Foundation is a non-government organisation working to protect and promote the rights, dignity, welfare and empowerment of poor and marginalised people, with a special focus on workers, migrant labourers, small and marginal farmers, women, youth and vulnerable communities across Jharkhand.
The Foundation believes that every individual deserves the opportunity to live with dignity, security, equality and economic independence. Through community-based initiatives, awareness programmes, livelihood interventions and social support, Chhatrapati Foundation strives to create a more inclusive and just society where disadvantaged communities can access their rights and participate meaningfully in development.
Our Core Areas of Work
1. Labour Migration and Migrant Workers
Migration for employment is an important livelihood strategy for thousands of families in Jharkhand. However, migrant workers often face challenges such as unsafe working conditions, wage exploitation, lack of social security, inadequate housing, limited access to healthcare and difficulties in accessing government entitlements.
Chhatrapati Foundation works with migrant communities to promote safe, informed and dignified migration. The organisation focuses on awareness, access to information, documentation, workers’ rights, social protection and linkages with relevant services.
The Foundation aims to ensure that workers are aware of their rights before migration, remain connected with support systems during employment and can access appropriate assistance when they return to their communities.
2. Safe and Dignified Employment
Every worker deserves a safe workplace and fair treatment. Chhatrapati Foundation works to raise awareness about safe employment, fair wages, labour rights and workplace dignity.
The organisation encourages workers and vulnerable families to make informed employment decisions and helps connect communities with opportunities that can contribute to stable and sustainable livelihoods.
3. Healthcare and Community Well-being
Access to quality healthcare is essential for social and economic development. Poor and marginalised families frequently face difficulties in accessing timely medical care because of financial, geographical and informational barriers.
Chhatrapati Foundation works to improve community awareness regarding healthcare, preventive health practices, government health services and available social protection mechanisms.
The Foundation seeks to strengthen community-level awareness so that families can identify health concerns early, seek appropriate care and make better use of available public health services.
4. Education and Awareness
Education is one of the strongest tools for breaking cycles of poverty and exclusion. Chhatrapati Foundation promotes awareness and educational opportunities for children, young people and adults from disadvantaged communities.
The organisation encourages families to recognise the importance of education and supports initiatives aimed at improving awareness, access and participation.
Special attention is given to communities where economic hardship, migration and social vulnerability can interrupt children’s education.
5. Agriculture-Based Livelihoods
Bhubaneswar,  Aug 18 [UDN}:Agriculture remains a major source of livelihood for rural families in Jharkhand. Small and marginal farmers often face challenges related to access to resources, markets, technology, finance and information.
Chhatrapati Foundation works to strengthen agriculture-based livelihoods and promote sustainable income opportunities for farming communities.
The organisation supports awareness around improved agricultural practices, diversification of livelihoods, local resources and opportunities that can enhance household income and resilience.
6. Empowerment of Farmers and Rural Communities
The Foundation believes that rural development must be community-driven. Farmers and rural families should have access to information, opportunities and institutions that enable them to make informed decisions about their livelihoods.
Through community engagement and awareness initiatives, Chhatrapati Foundation works toward strengthening the voice and participation of rural communities in local development.
7. Women and Youth Empowerment
Women and young people are central to building strong and resilient communities. Chhatrapati Foundation promotes opportunities that can strengthen their skills, awareness, participation and economic independence.
The organisation encourages women and youth to participate in education, employment, entrepreneurship, livelihood activities and community decision-making.
Our Vision
Our vision is to build a just, inclusive and equitable society where poverty and social vulnerability do not prevent people from accessing their rights, opportunities and basic services.
We envision communities where:
Poor families live with dignity and security.
Workers receive fair and respectful treatment.
Migrant labourers can migrate safely and access essential support.
Farmers have sustainable and resilient livelihoods.
Children have opportunities for quality education.
Communities can access healthcare and social protection.
Women and youth have meaningful opportunities for empowerment.
Marginalised people have a stronger voice in decisions affecting their lives.
Our Mission
Chhatrapati Foundation’s mission is to work directly with communities and partner with relevant institutions to create practical, sustainable and community-led solutions to poverty, inequality, unsafe migration and livelihood insecurity.
The Foundation seeks to bridge the gap between vulnerable communities and available opportunities, services and rights through awareness, facilitation, capacity building, livelihood support and community participation.
A Community-Centred Approach
Chhatrapati Foundation believes that sustainable development cannot be achieved without the participation of the people themselves.
Our approach therefore focuses on:
Listen → Understand → Organise → Empower → Act → Sustain
The organisation works to understand local needs and challenges before developing interventions. Community members are encouraged to participate in identifying problems, developing solutions and monitoring progress.
Building a Just Society
Poverty is not simply a lack of income. It can also mean limited access to education, healthcare, decent employment, social security, information and opportunities.
Chhatrapati Foundation therefore takes a broader approach to development by connecting rights, livelihoods, dignity, social protection and community empowerment.
Through sustained engagement with vulnerable communities in Jharkhand, the Foundation aims to contribute to a future in which development reaches those who need it most.
CHHATRAPATI FOUNDATION
For Rights. For Dignity. For Empowerment. For a Just Society.
Working towards a Jharkhand where every worker, farmer, migrant family, woman, young person and vulnerable citizen has the opportunity to live, work and prosper with dignity.
