Handloom Fridays: Revenue Staff Turn Offices into a Showcase of Indigenous Textiles

Nabarangpur, Mar, 20: To show respect for the handloom movement, all revenue officers and staff of the District Collector’s Office in Nabarangpur, along with employees of various government offices in the district, are attending office every Friday wearing handloom garments.
Earlier, during his tenure in the Agriculture Department and currently after assuming charge of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Aravind Padhee had informed all District Collectors through an official letter about promoting handloom attire. Dr. Padhee himself regularly wears handloom clothing and emphasizes the importance of preserving and promoting Odisha’s traditional handloom culture.
As a mark of respect and support for the state’s traditional weaving and handloom industry, the initiative has been widely appreciated. It is noteworthy that this effort, led by Dr. Padhee, has received praise across the state.
Honouring this initiative, all revenue employees in Nabarangpur district have been regularly wearing handloom garments every Friday since 2023, thereby promoting and supporting Odisha’s rich handloom heritage.
