Bhubaneswar, July 28 (UDN): Several parts of Odisha witnessed intense rainfall over the past 24 hours as a deep depression brought heavy to extremely heavy showers across the state, affecting normal life in many districts.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Balasore recorded the highest rainfall of 246.6 mm, followed by Nilgiri, Jajpur, and Remuna, which also received exceptionally heavy showers.
The IMD reported extremely heavy rainfall at several locations, while many other stations recorded very heavy to heavy rainfall during the period.
The continuous downpour has triggered waterlogging and flood-like conditions in some areas. In Balasore, rising water levels in the Jalaka River have crossed the danger mark, affecting farmland and low-lying regions.
Several areas have reported disrupted traffic movement and water accumulation, prompting district administrations to remain alert and monitor the situation closely.
Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from flood-prone locations, and follow official safety advisories as more rainfall is expected in the coming hours.
Officials are continuing to assess the impact of the rainfall and taking necessary measures to manage the situation and provide assistance to affected communities.
