Malkangiri, April 8: On the fifth day of the Odia Paksha celebrations, a historic heritage run was successfully organized under the joint initiative of the district administration and the District Sports Department. The run was conducted from the local DNK playground to the Sports Complex.
Organized under the direction of District Collector Prathamesh Arvind Rajeshirke, the event was inaugurated by Additional District Magistrate (Administration) Somnath Pradhan, who attended as the chief guest.
In his address, Mr. Pradhan highlighted Odisha’s bravery and rich cultural heritage. He stated that this heritage run is not just a physical exercise, but also a medium to reconnect with our glorious past. He referred to the victorious campaigns of Mahameghavahana Kharavela, the indomitable courage of the last independent emperor Mukunda Deva, and the transformation of Emperor Ashoka from “Chandashoka” to “Dharmashoka” — all of which bring pride to our land.
On the other hand, Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Bedabar Pradhan, who attended as a guest of honour, emphasized the importance of preserving Odisha’s heritage. He said that Odisha’s art, culture, and traditions are globally recognized, and it is our moral responsibility to protect and preserve our heritage sites. He added that such heritage runs are a way to pay tribute to our brave warriors and ancestors, while also inspiring patriotism and awareness among the youth.
Among other dignitaries present at the event were Chief Development Officer of Zilla Parishad Dasharath Sarabu, District Information and Public Relations Officer Pramila Majhi, District Sports Officer Muna Turuk, District Labour Officer Purnima Duruka, and District Culture Officer Sannyas Narayan Panda.
Senior officials and जवानs of the Border Security Force (BSF) also actively participated in the run.
Other guests and senior officials present at the program unanimously emphasized the importance of such initiatives, stating that these activities help increase awareness about Odisha’s heritage among youth and students, while also promoting a disciplined lifestyle.
Under the direct supervision of District Sports Officer Mr. Turuk, hundreds of students from various schools and colleges enthusiastically took part in the event. All staff members of the Sports Department contributed to making the program a success.
