IMD Issues 3-Hour Thunderstorm Alert for Seven Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 4 (UDN): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a three-hour nowcast warning for seven districts of Odisha, forecasting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places.

The Yellow Warning, issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar at 4:35 pm on Friday, urges residents to remain alert as weather conditions may change rapidly over the next few hours.

According to the IMD, the districts likely to witness thunderstorms and rain are:

Dhenkanal
Cuttack
Jajpur
Jagatsinghpur
Kendrapada
Rayagada
Nayagarh

Safety advisory

The weather office has advised people in the affected districts to monitor local weather updates and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during thunderstorms.

Residents have also been urged to take shelter in safe buildings, stay away from trees and electric poles during lightning, and plan travel with caution until weather conditions improve.

The nowcast warning will remain in effect for three hours from the time of its issuance, with the IMD continuing to monitor the evolving weather situation across the state.
