Jharsuguda, Aug 17 [UDN}: Acting on the directions of the Jharsuguda District Collector, the District Food Safety Department, in coordination with the municipal authorities, has launched a special inspection and enforcement drive at various locations across the town to ensure food safety and hygiene standards.
As part of the campaign, an intensive inspection was conducted in the Sarbahal area from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM. During the three-and-a-half-hour operation, officials inspected a total of 29 food business establishments, including golgappa (pani puri) stalls, fast-food outlets, snack centres, chicken shops and fish shops.
During the inspection, several violations of food safety and hygiene standards were detected. Vendors found selling food in unhygienic conditions were penalised, and a total fine of ₹5,500 was collected from the violators.
In addition, officials seized approximately 14 kg of stale and unhygienic food items that had been kept for sale. The seized food was immediately destroyed to prevent it from reaching consumers and posing a risk to public health.
As part of preventive measures against water-borne diseases, water samples were also collected from seven different locations to assess the quality and safety of the water being used by food establishments. The samples have been sent to a laboratory for detailed testing.
The authorities have indicated that such inspections are aimed at protecting public health and ensuring that food businesses strictly comply with prescribed food safety, hygiene and quality standards.
