G. Udayagiri, Kandhamal, June 16 (UDN): Rabanaju Primary School, located at Kanabagiri in Ward No. 12 of G. Udayagiri NAC in Kandhamal district, has earned national-level recognition in the “Swachh and Green School Rating” competition, marking a significant achievement for the district.
The school secured an impressive 93.3 per cent score, ranking 11th nationally and qualifying for the national award selection list under the prestigious programme that evaluates schools on cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
Officials said the rating process covered multiple parameters, including sanitation standards, environmental protection initiatives, green projects, drinking water facilities, cleanliness of toilets, and overall school management systems. The evaluation was conducted as part of a structured selection process involving schools across Odisha.
Out of over 10.47 lakh schools across the country, only 191 schools were selected for national-level consideration, including 10 schools from Odisha. Rabanaju Primary School was among the top performers, securing its place through consistent efforts in maintaining a clean, green, and child-friendly learning environment.
According to officials, the state-level assessment was conducted on December 30, 2025, covering 230 schools in Odisha. Following detailed inspections, 20 schools—10 urban and 10 rural—were shortlisted for national consideration based on performance in key sustainability and hygiene indicators.
School authorities expressed gratitude to district and local officials for their support in achieving the milestone. The achievement has been widely appreciated by education department officials and local administration, who termed it a model for other schools in the region.
District officials, including the Collector, DEO, and local education officers, congratulated the school management and staff for the achievement, noting that it reflects growing awareness and implementation of green practices in rural education institutions.
