Key Decisions Taken During District-Level Forest Rights Committee Meeting to Expedite Settlement of Individual and Community Claims

Jharsuguda March, 18: A District-Level Committee meeting related to the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006 was held today at the conference hall of the district office under the chairmanship of District Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan.

The meeting, organized under the coordination of the District Welfare Officer, discussed important matters concerning the diversion of forest land for non-forest purposes and individual forest rights claims.

As per the decisions taken in the meeting, the committee approved the proposal for the use of forest land for the Kudaloi (A) North Coal Mine Project of Vedanta Limited.

On the other hand, the proposal submitted by Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) for a transmission line project was deferred to the next meeting due to the absence of required documents.

Similarly, in the case of 64 individual forest rights claims from Kirmira and Lakhanpur blocks, certain technical discrepancies had previously been observed, causing issues in the correction of land records (ROR). Keeping this in view, the administration decided that claims of beneficiaries who are not actually in possession of forest land will be rejected.

The District Collector directed that all claims under the Forest Rights Act will be thoroughly verified in the coming days, and necessary actions will be taken accordingly.
