Koraput, Sept. 22 (UDN): The Koraput district administration has directed all government officers and employees to remain at their respective headquarters until September 25, stepping up preparedness ahead of the heavy rainfall forecast under the influence of a Bay of Bengal weather system.
The directive, issued by the Collector and District Magistrate, comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that the developing low-pressure system over the east-central and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify and bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to the district.
As part of the precautionary measures, officials have been instructed not to leave their headquarters without obtaining prior approval from the Collector.
The administration has made it clear that any violation of the order will be treated seriously, underscoring the need for officials to remain available for emergency response.
The move is aimed at ensuring a swift administrative response if the anticipated rainfall leads to flooding, landslides or other weather-related emergencies in vulnerable parts of the district.
Koraput is among the southern Odisha districts expected to witness intense rainfall as the Bay of Bengal system strengthens over the coming days, prompting authorities to heighten disaster preparedness across the region.
