Kotpad, Sept 18 [UDN}:: The Kotpad Bar Association has renewed its demand for the establishment of a Senior Civil Court at Kotpad, stating that the move would significantly benefit residents of the area and help expedite the disposal of long-pending land and property-related cases.
A delegation of the Kotpad Bar Association, led by its president Mani Prasad Pattnaik, visited the Orissa High Court in Cuttack and met Justice Chittaranjan Dash, the Portfolio Judge for the Koraput Judgeship, in his chamber. The delegation submitted a representation requesting that a Senior Civil Court be made operational at Kotpad.
The delegation incluaded Bar Association Secretary Ajit Kumar Pattnaik, former president Jitendra Mahapatra, former Government Pleader Kishore Chandra Mishra, Biren Bisoi and Shankar Prasad Panda, among others.
According to the association, more than 300 cases relating to land and property disputes from the Kotpad area have been pending for a long period before the Civil Court at Jeypore. The lawyers argued that residents have to travel to Jeypore for hearings, causing additional inconvenience and delays in the judicial process.
The establishment of a permanent Senior Civil Court at Kotpad, the association said, would bring judicial services closer to the people and facilitate faster hearings and disposal of civil cases. It would particularly help litigants involved in land disputes and other civil matters who currently depend on the court at Jeypore.
The Kotpad Bar Association has reportedly been raising the demand for such a court for a considerable period. During the meeting, the delegation also apprised the High Court judge of the large number of pending cases and the difficulties faced by litigants from the Kotpad region.
Association president Mani Prasad Pattnaik said that Justice Chittaranjan Dash assured the delegation that the process for establishing the court is expected to be completed within the next few months. The assurance has generated hope among local lawyers and residents that Kotpad may soon have a permanent Senior Civil Court.
The Bar Association expressed the view that the establishment of the court would strengthen access to justice in the region and reduce the burden on litigants who currently have to travel to Jeypore for prolonged civil proceedings.
