Malkangiri , Sept 22 [UDN}:The low-pressure area that had formed over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area as of Monday morning, according to the latest weather assessment cited in the report.
The system is expected to strengthen further over the coming days. It is likely to intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours and subsequently become a deep depression during the following 24 hours as it moves closer to the eastern coast.
The weather system is forecast to approach the North Andhra Pradesh–South Odisha coastal region by the morning of September 23. As the system moves towards the coast, its influence is expected to increase rainfall activity across several parts of southern Odisha.
Malkangiri district is likely to be among the areas affected, with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some locations. The approaching system could also bring a significant change in local weather conditions, including increased cloud cover, strong winds and periods of intense rainfall.
Residents in low-lying and vulnerable areas of Malkangiri and other southern Odisha districts are likely to face heightened risks of waterlogging, localised flooding and disruption to road communication if rainfall becomes intense. Authorities and residents are expected to closely monitor official weather advisories as the system continues to intensify.
The situation may become clearer over the next 24–48 hours as the depression develops and its exact track and intensity are better established.
