Nabarangpur, Aug 3 [UDN}:: Netaji Yuvak Sangha of Bharamajhiguda village under Patraput Gram Panchayat in Tentulikhunti Block of Nabarangpur district organised a tree plantation programme to promote environmental conservation and raise awareness about the importance of greenery.
The initiative was conducted under the leadership of the Sangha’s President Mukunda Sunani and Secretary Saroj Nag, with enthusiastic participation from villagers, who appreciated the efforts of the youth organisation.
Speaking on the occasion, President Mukunda Sunani announced that similar tree plantation drives would soon be carried out in all villages under Patraput Gram Panchayat. He emphasised the need for collective action to make villages greener and environmentally sustainable.
District President of Nabarangpur App, Laxmi Chandra Takri, encouraged the youth to expand the movement further. He highlighted that the continuous decline in forest cover has led to reduced oxygen levels and increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, disturbing ecological balance. He also pointed out that deforestation has resulted in a decline in wildlife populations, scarcity of forest resources such as mahua, lac, resin, and other valuable forest produce, besides accelerating soil erosion.
Takri stressed that tree plantation is essential to address these environmental challenges. However, he noted that planting saplings alone is not enough—their protection and proper care are equally important to ensure their survival. He urged all members of the youth association and villagers to take responsibility for safeguarding the planted trees and work together to create lush green villages and a healthier environment across the panchayat.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by the participants to continue tree plantation activities and actively contribute to environmental protection in the region.
