Malkangiri, April 13: In a commendable initiative to make girls self-reliant, strong, and courageous, the district administration of Malkangiri has launched a special training camp on swimming and self-defense for girls at the local Bondabakul reservoir.
District Collector Prathamesh Arvind Rajshirkhe formally inaugurated the camp and encouraged the participants. In his address, he said that ensuring the safety and empowerment of girls is the primary objective. He emphasized that swimming is not just an exercise but an essential life-saving skill. This training will instill courage and confidence in girls, enabling them to handle emergency situations effectively.
As per the state government’s directive, around 20 experienced trainers from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force are imparting training in the camp. Each batch includes 30 girls, and the program will continue for 7 days.
The training mainly focuses on swimming techniques and various life-saving skills to prevent drowning.
Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Bedabar Pradhan, SDPO Dibyajyoti Dalei, and Deputy Collector (Emergency) Dipti Ranjan Sahu were present at the inauguration and guided the participants.
The administration stated that this training will be highly beneficial in helping girls save their own lives as well as others during emergencies. Senior Revenue Assistant Kuna Nayak assisted in organizing the program.
