Delhi, June 9: Paper currency in the country will be replaced with plastic notes.
The RBI Governor has indicated that plastic notes will be introduced soon.
A proposal made by the RBI about 10 years ago is currently in its initial stage.
This move is being considered due to the high cost of printing paper currency.
Initially, plans are to introduce ₹10 and ₹20 plastic notes.
They will first be launched on a pilot basis in selected cities.
If the experiment is successful, plastic notes will be introduced across the country.
These notes will be waterproof, making them more durable than paper currency.
