Rourkela, Sept. 10 (UDN): The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela is set to confer degrees on 2,033 graduands at its 24th Convocation scheduled to be held on September 12.
The graduating students will receive degrees across a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes, marking the culmination of their academic journey at one of the country’s premier technical institutions.
Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Member, NITI Aayog, will attend the convocation as the Chief Guest, while S. N. Subrahmanyan, Chairperson of the NIT Rourkela Board of Governors, will preside over the ceremony.
According to institute officials, the graduating batch includes students from programmes such as B.Arch., B.Tech., Integrated M.Sc., B.Sc. under the Integrated Multiple Entry-Exit programme, Dual Degree B.Tech. and M.Tech., M.Tech., M.Sc., MBA, MA, M.Tech. (Research), Ph.D. and Executive Ph.D.
The ceremony will also recognise outstanding academic, research and co-curricular achievements. A total of 86 medals and awards will be presented to meritorious students.
The honours include 11 Institute Gold Medals, six Endowment Gold Medals, eight Endowment Awards and 61 Institute Silver Medals across various disciplines.
The awards will recognise excellence in academics, research, projects, sports and all-round performance. Among the distinctions are the Prof. Bhubaneswar Behera Gold Medal for the Best Undergraduate All-Rounder, the NITR Sportsperson of the Year 2025 and the NITROAA–Prof. Laxmi N. Bhuyan Undergraduate Research Award.
The institute will also confer the Distinguished Alumnus Award 2026 on two accomplished former students for their contributions in their respective fields.
Rajarshi Gupta, a 1988 Mechanical Engineering alumnus and Managing Director & CEO of ONGC Videsh Limited, will be honoured for his contribution to strengthening India’s global energy security through strategic international investments and acquisitions.
Gyana Ranjan Mohanty, a 1980 Mechanical Engineering alumnus, Managing Director of Corrosion Protection Limited and Co-founder of B. Engineers & Builders Pvt. Ltd., will receive the award for his contributions to infrastructure development, defence manufacturing and heritage conservation.
NIT Rourkela officials said the graduating students will also have access to their degree certificates through the DigiLocker facility, making the documents readily accessible in digital form.
The 24th Convocation will bring together graduating students, their families, faculty members, alumni and distinguished guests to celebrate academic excellence and the achievements of the graduating batch.
The institute said the occasion will also reaffirm its commitment to producing skilled professionals, researchers and future leaders capable of contributing to India’s technological, economic and social development.
