Bhubaneswar, July 17 (UDN): The first phase of admissions to Plus Two (Higher Secondary) courses in Odisha has concluded, leaving 2,18,264 seats vacant across higher secondary schools and colleges in the state, according to official admission data.
The School and Mass Education Department completed the first round of admissions through the Student Academic Management System (SAMS), with thousands of students securing seats in Arts, Science, Commerce, Vocational, and Upashastri streams.
Despite the completion of the initial admission process, a substantial number of seats remain unfilled, particularly in institutions located in rural and remote areas, while many urban colleges have witnessed comparatively higher demand.
Officials said the vacant seats will be offered during the subsequent phases of the admission process, providing another opportunity for students who were not allotted seats in the first selection or who wish to upgrade their choices.
The department is expected to release the schedule for the next phase of admissions shortly through the SAMS portal. Eligible students have been advised to regularly check official notifications and complete the admission formalities within the stipulated timeline.
Education experts attribute the large number of vacant seats to factors such as demographic changes, students opting for technical and vocational education, migration to private institutions, and varying demand across different streams and districts.
The School and Mass Education Department has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all eligible students have an opportunity to secure admission to Higher Secondary courses through a transparent, merit-based, and technology-driven admission process.
The Plus Two admission process in Odisha is conducted online under the Student Academic Management System (SAMS), which facilitates centralized admissions to Higher Secondary institutions across the state.
