Bhubaneswar, Sept. 11 (UDN): The Odisha government has stepped up preparations for the 2027 elections to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), with a statewide door-to-door exercise planned to update electoral rolls ahead of the polls.

According to a notification issued by the Housing and Urban Development Department, the physical door-to-door survey will be carried out from October 26 to November 7, 2026.
The exercise will focus on verifying and updating voter details and identifying eligible new voters. The cut-off date for inclusion of new voters has been set as January 1, 2027.
As per the schedule, the draft electoral roll will be generated on January 1, 2027, while the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on February 10, 2027.
The department has directed Commissioners of Municipal Corporations and Executive Officers of Municipalities and Notified Area Councils (NACs) to extend necessary cooperation to the teams engaged in the field-level survey.
In a letter to the concerned officials, Under Secretary J. Durjyodhan Patro urged them to ensure that the survey is completed within the prescribed timeframe in accordance with the schedule of the State Election Commission.
As part of the preparations, a state-level training programme for Master Trainers will be conducted on September 23 at the State Convention Centre in Bhubaneswar. The training is intended to facilitate the smooth implementation of the electoral-roll updating exercise across the state.
The door-to-door verification is being undertaken as an important preparatory step ahead of the 2027 Panchayat and municipal elections, with the objective of ensuring that the electoral rolls are accurate, updated and inclusive.
