Odisha Flood Crisis Deepens: Swollen Baitarani, Budhabalanga and Jalka Rivers Trigger Widespread Inundation Across Five Districts, Disrupting Normal Life

Bhubaneswar,  Aug 17 [UDN}:The Baitarani, Budhabalanga and Jalka rivers are continuing to rise following incessant rainfall, triggering a serious flood situation across several parts of Odisha. Five districts have been severely affected, with thousands of people reportedly stranded or surrounded by floodwater.
Low-lying villages and vulnerable areas have been inundated as swollen rivers overflow their banks and floodwater enters residential areas, roads and agricultural fields. The situation has disrupted normal life, with communication and transportation affected in several locations.
Authorities and disaster-response teams are closely monitoring the situation and undertaking rescue and relief operations wherever necessary. People living in flood-prone and low-lying areas are being advised to remain alert and move to safer locations when instructed by the administration.
The rising water levels of the Baitarani, Budhabalanga and Jalka rivers have heightened concerns over further flooding, particularly if heavy rainfall continues in the affected catchment areas. Thousands of residents remain waterlogged or stranded, while extensive damage to crops, roads and local infrastructure is feared.
