Odisha Government Medical Colleges Make Mark in IIRF 2026 Rankings

Bhubaneswar, Aug 10: Three government medical colleges in Odisha have secured places among the top 100 medical institutions in the IIRF 2026 rankings, marking a significant achievement for the state’s medical education sector.

SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack secured the 15th position nationally, emerging as the highest-ranked government medical college from Odisha.

Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, was placed 64th, while MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, secured the 74th position in the rankings.

The recognition of three major government medical institutions among the country’s top 100 highlights the growing strength of Odisha’s public medical education system.

SCB Medical College’s position among the top 20 institutions represents a notable achievement for the state, while the rankings of VIMSAR and MKCG further underline the performance of Odisha’s government-run medical colleges at the national level.

The rankings are expected to provide greater visibility to the institutions among medical students and aspirants while highlighting their role in medical education, clinical training, research and healthcare delivery.

Government medical colleges in Odisha also serve a large number of patients, particularly from economically weaker sections, making their performance significant not only from an academic perspective but also in terms of public healthcare.

The strong showing in the IIRF 2026 rankings is likely to encourage further efforts to strengthen academic programmes, research, infrastructure and patient-care facilities across the state’s medical institutions.
