The initiative is designed to enhance community safety by alerting residents when elephants enter or move through nearby areas, allowing people to take precautionary measures and avoid dangerous encounters. Powered by solar energy, the siren systems are expected to provide reliable operation in remote forest regions with limited access to electricity.

Human-elephant conflict remains a significant challenge in several parts of Odisha, often resulting in loss of life, crop damage, and property destruction. The deployment of early warning systems forms part of the Forest Department’s broader strategy to promote peaceful coexistence between wildlife and local communities.

Officials said the initiative combines technology with conservation efforts to improve wildlife management while safeguarding rural populations living near elephant habitats. The Forest Department is expected to continue monitoring the effectiveness of the system and explore similar interventions in other conflict-prone areas across the state.
