July 3: A 17-year-old girl was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Saharada village under Chandipur police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district, leaving her family devastated and demanding justice.
According to her relatives, the girl was married at just 14 years old and had been facing repeated harassment over dowry demands since then. The family alleges that this ongoing pressure and abuse from her in-laws led to her untimely death.
The incident came to light on Thursday, after which police reached the spot and began a preliminary investigation. Officials said the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after the post-mortem report is received.
Police have registered a case and are examining all possible angles, including the allegations made by the family. Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
