Speaking at a function held near Jatni in Khordha district, the Chief Minister said that primary education forms the foundation of a student’s future, and strengthening this stage is essential for building a stronger society and economy.
The government’s initiative aims to transform government primary schools into model institutions equipped with improved infrastructure, better learning environments, and technology-enabled teaching systems. The objective is to ensure quality education that supports both academic growth and overall skill development among students.
The Chief Minister emphasized that in today’s rapidly changing job landscape, students must be prepared not only with academic knowledge but also with practical skills that encourage innovation, problem-solving, and employability.
Earlier, the scheme was launched in January at Banpur in Khordha district, the birthplace of educationist Pandit Godabarisha Mishra, when foundation stones were laid for 118 schools. With the addition of 204 new schools, the initiative is being scaled up significantly across the state.
Under the first phase of the programme, Odisha plans to develop 2,200 model primary schools with an estimated investment of ₹12,000 crore. So far, construction work has already begun on 322 schools.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen human resources in the education sector, noting that 26,615 teachers and non-teaching staff have been appointed in the last two years. Recruitment for an additional 45,000 teachers is currently underway and is expected to be completed in the coming years.
Senior ministers including School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari attended the event, along with several MPs and MLAs who joined virtually.
Officials stated that the initiative reflects the state’s long-term commitment to improving foundational education and ensuring equitable access to quality learning across rural and urban areas of Odisha.
