JharigaonJune 13:: With only a few days left for the celebration of the traditional Raja festival, preparations have begun across both urban and rural areas. From towns to villages, enthusiasm for the festival can clearly be seen.
In rural regions, young women and girls are busy preparing swings in various gardens, especially in mango orchards near villages, where they traditionally enjoy the festival. The Raja festival is celebrated for four days. The first day is known as Pahili Raja, the second day is Raja Sankranti, the third day is Bhumidaaha (or Bhumi Dahana), and the fourth and final day is Basuamati Snana.
This festival symbolizes the beginning of agricultural activities. The Earth is considered a mother, and the arrival of the monsoon is believed to mark her menstruation phase, symbolizing fertility and the birth of new crops. During this time, farmers worship Mother Earth and their ploughs, and they take a three-day break from agricultural work.
Traditional foods like Poda Pitha and Paan Khua are prepared and enjoyed during the festival. Girls play on swings and enjoy puchi games. Keeping this in mind, paan shops in Jharigaon are stocking various types of sweet ingredients to prepare flavored paan. On the other hand, clothing stores are also witnessing heavy rush as people shop for the festival.
