According to a notification issued by the department, students pursuing Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS), Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Commerce, Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Commerce (M.Com) will be eligible to undergo a 30-hour professional certificate course on Mutual Funds.

The programme is aimed at equipping students with practical knowledge of financial markets while improving their employability in the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector.

To ensure effective implementation, all participating institutions have been instructed to appoint a Nodal Officer. Faculty members from Commerce, Management, Economics or allied disciplines will be given preference for the role, as they will coordinate the programme at the institutional level.

The Higher Education Department issued the order on July 15, 2026, directing Vice-Chancellors of State public universities and principals of government and aided colleges to initiate necessary steps for the programme’s rollout.

In the first phase, the initiative will cover 97 universities and colleges located within a 100-kilometre radius of major urban centres, including Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jeypore, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Rourkela and Sambalpur.

Officials said the programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements by providing students with hands-on exposure to financial markets and investment products through structured, industry-recognised training.

The State government expects the initiative to strengthen financial awareness among students while creating a skilled talent pool for careers in the rapidly expanding BFSI sector.
