Bhubaneswar, Aug 14 [UDN}:Five meritorious students from Odisha’s Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) participated in a two-day advanced semiconductor training programme at the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, on August 12, 2026.
The programme was organised under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs’ STEM initiative to expose tribal students to semiconductor science, advanced research facilities, clean-room technology and emerging career opportunities.
Students from EMRS Gidhivas, Bahalda and Dhangera received hands-on exposure to semiconductor technology, clean-room safety, contamination control and wafer processing. They also visited specialised optics, electrical, mechanical, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) laboratories, where they observed advanced scientific equipment and research practices.
The second day focused on semiconductor manufacturing and the complete production process. Students learned about clean-room environments, precision manufacturing techniques and safety protocols, along with the strategic importance of semiconductors in India’s technological development.
A dedicated career guidance and counselling session encouraged the students to pursue higher education and build careers in science, technology, engineering and research.
The initiative marks an important step towards providing tribal students with greater access to cutting-edge science and technology and inspiring them to explore careers in India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor ecosystem.
