Bhubaneswar, August 1, 2026 – Odisha is preparing for a significant transformation in its export landscape, with the state’s merchandise export potential projected to touch ₹1.42 lakh crore ($14.9 billion) by 2030, according to an India Exim Bank report highlighting trade and investment opportunities.
The assessment underlines Odisha’s growing role in India’s export economy, supported by its industrial strength, mineral resources, skilled workforce, strategic coastline, and emerging opportunities in manufacturing, agriculture, and traditional crafts.
The state currently contributes around 2.4 per cent of India’s total exports, a share that could rise to nearly 5 per cent by 2030 with improved infrastructure, stronger supply chains, investment promotion, and greater access to international markets.
Odisha’s export identity has traditionally been driven by industries such as aluminium, iron and steel, minerals, petroleum products, and marine exports. However, the state is now looking beyond conventional sectors by promoting high-value products that represent its cultural and agricultural strengths.
Products such as Sambalpuri handloom, Pipili applique crafts, Cuttack silver filigree, Kandhamal turmeric, Koraput black rice, and Dongria Kondh embroidered shawls are being recognised for their potential to reach global consumers and create new opportunities for artisans and local producers.
The report has highlighted the need for focused industrial clusters to accelerate export growth. Proposed areas include food processing clusters in Koraput-Rayagada-Kandhamal, chemical and speciality chemical hubs along Paradip-Dhamra-Gopalpur, metal-based manufacturing clusters in Angul-Jharsuguda-Kalinganagar, and green energy equipment centres in key industrial regions.
Several districts, including Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Khordha, Balasore, and Rayagada, have been identified as important growth centres due to their industrial capacity, resources, and potential for expanding export-linked activities.
A stronger export ecosystem is expected to benefit not only large industries but also small businesses, farmers, entrepreneurs, and traditional artisans by connecting local products with international markets and creating new livelihood opportunities.
With its combination of industrial capability, rich heritage, agricultural diversity, and strategic location, Odisha is moving towards becoming a stronger contributor to India’s global trade ambitions.
