Bhubaneswar, Aug 6: Odisha’s emerging semiconductor ecosystem received a significant boost as the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar entered into a five-year partnership with Banashree Semiconductors to promote chip design research, innovation and industry-ready skill development.
The collaboration is aimed at creating stronger links between academic research and the semiconductor industry, supporting the development of advanced technologies and preparing skilled professionals for the rapidly growing chip sector.
Through this partnership, IIT Bhubaneswar and Banashree Semiconductors will work together on research and development projects, advanced chip design solutions, technology optimisation and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
The agreement will also create opportunities for students and researchers through internships, industry projects, training programmes and faculty engagement. These initiatives are expected to provide young engineers with practical exposure to real-world semiconductor challenges.
Banashree Semiconductors brings expertise in low-power chip design, advanced silicon technologies and system-on-chip (SoC) solutions, while IIT Bhubaneswar will contribute its academic capabilities, research infrastructure and technical expertise.
The partnership will encourage joint research, explore externally supported projects and enable the sharing of laboratories, testing facilities and computing resources to accelerate innovation in semiconductor design.
The move comes as India continues to strengthen its semiconductor sector with a focus on domestic innovation, skilled workforce development and reducing reliance on global supply chains.
Semiconductors are becoming increasingly important across industries such as electronics, automobiles, telecommunications, artificial intelligence and defence. Building local expertise in chip design and manufacturing is expected to create new employment opportunities and support technology-driven economic growth.
Industry experts believe collaborations between educational institutions and technology companies will be critical in building a strong semiconductor ecosystem and positioning India as a global hub for chip innovation.
