Malkangiri, June 10: The craze for Miyazaki mangoes is drawing huge crowds at the “Gaon Aamba Pasara” mango fair in Malkangiri, where more than 16 varieties of mangoes are on display and sale. The fair has now become a major attraction for district residents. Four new mango varieties were added today, increasing public interest further. Visitors are flocking daily to see and buy mangoes from both local and outside states.
The main attraction of the fair is the world-famous Japanese-origin “Miyazaki” mango. Considered one of the most expensive mango varieties in the world, its price reportedly ranges from ₹35,000 to more than ₹2 lakh per kilogram. Weighing around 850 grams, the mango has been placed inside a glass enclosure, creating special excitement among visitors.
The fair also features several other mango varieties such as Dhanapati, Mallika, Dasheri, Totapuri, and Temeru Koli. The unique taste and aroma of these mangoes are attracting mango lovers from across the region.
Considering the growing popularity of the event, prominent social worker Ramakrishna Choudhury has requested the District Collector to extend the fair’s duration from June 5 to June 15. Keeping the Raja festival in mind, there is hope for a positive decision regarding the extension.
If the proposal is approved, residents of the district and mango enthusiasts will be able to enjoy a wide range of mango varieties throughout the Raja festival period.
