Bhubaneswar, July 4 (UDN): Political activity has begun to gather pace in Odisha ahead of the forthcoming Panchayat elections, with all major parties intensifying organisational efforts to strengthen their grassroots network and prepare for what is expected to be a keenly contested electoral battle.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Congress have stepped up meetings at the district and block levels, with a renewed focus on booth management, cadre mobilisation and candidate identification. The Panchayat polls are widely regarded as a crucial test of a party’s organisational strength and rural outreach.
Within the BJP, discussions are reportedly underway over organisational preparedness and cadre engagement. Party insiders acknowledge that efforts are being made to further strengthen coordination between the leadership and grassroots workers, amid concerns expressed by some sections of the rank and file over greater participation in organisational activities.
Senior BJP leaders, however, have dismissed reports of internal discord, asserting that the party remains united and is fully geared up for the elections. They said organisational restructuring and worker outreach programmes are continuing across the State to reinforce the party’s presence at the village level.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have begun sharpening their campaign, raising issues related to governance, inflation, rural development and implementation of welfare schemes. Political observers believe these issues are likely to dominate the Panchayat election campaign in the coming months.
Analysts say the Panchayat elections often provide an early indication of the political mood in rural Odisha and are closely watched by all parties as a barometer of grassroots support ahead of future Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
Although the State Election Commission is yet to announce the election schedule, political mobilisation has visibly intensified across the State, signalling the beginning of an active electoral season.
