Puri, August 15, 2026: Puri’s famous coastline became a canvas for patriotism and national unity as celebrated sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a special sand sculpture to mark India’s 80th Independence Day.
The artwork, themed around “Unity in Diversity,” showcased the spirit of togetherness that defines India’s cultural and social fabric. Through sand, Pattnaik conveyed a message of harmony among the country’s diverse communities, traditions and identities.
The creation drew the attention of visitors at Puri Beach, adding an artistic dimension to the Independence Day celebrations. Pattnaik’s sand sculptures have often used public occasions to highlight themes of patriotism, peace, social harmony and national pride.
This year’s installation once again used Puri’s shoreline to deliver a simple yet powerful message — India’s diversity is not a barrier to unity, but one of the country’s greatest strengths.
The artwork also highlighted the continuing role of art in connecting people with important national messages, with Pattnaik’s distinctive sand creations making Independence Day celebrations more visually engaging for visitors and tourists in Puri.
