Puri, Aug 25 [UDN}:: The holy city of Puri has taken on a festive and devotional appearance as preparations are underway for the Jhulan Yatra, one of the important religious festivals associated with Lord Jagannath and the Vaishnava tradition. The Sri Jagannath Temple and various monasteries (mathas) across the city have been beautifully decorated to mark the auspicious occasion.
As part of the celebrations, beautifully decorated Jhulan Kunjas (swing pavilions) have been prepared at different monasteries and religious establishments. During the festival, idols of Radha and Lord Krishna will be ceremonially placed on elaborately decorated swings, where devotees will offer prayers and participate in the traditional rituals.
The Jhulan Yatra is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm, particularly in temples and Vaishnava monasteries. The festival symbolizes the divine sporting pastimes of Radha and Krishna and is observed with devotional songs, bhajans, rituals and special decorations. The sight of the deities swinging gently on richly decorated Jhulas creates a deeply spiritual atmosphere for devotees.
In Puri, preparations for the festival have added to the already vibrant religious ambience of the city. Temples and mathas have been adorned with colourful flowers, decorative materials and traditional ornaments, while special arrangements are being made to facilitate the smooth participation of devotees.
The festival is expected to draw a large number of devotees and visitors, who will gather at different religious institutions to witness the ceremonial swinging of Radha and Krishna and seek their blessings. The celebrations will continue with various traditional rituals and devotional programmes, making the holy city of Puri especially lively and spiritually vibrant during the Jhulan Yatra.
