Jagatsinghpur, July 9 (UDN): For vegetable farmers in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, days of relentless rainfall have turned fields of hope into pools of uncertainty. Large stretches of farmland have been submerged, leaving hundreds of farmers worried about losing their crops and livelihoods.
As water levels in the Mahanadi and Paika rivers continue to rise, farmers in Kujang block are making desperate efforts to save whatever produce they can before the floodwaters wash away months of hard work.
Vegetable cultivation is a major source of income for many families in the region, and the damage caused by prolonged waterlogging has created serious financial concerns. Farmers fear that the loss of crops will affect not only their earnings but also their ability to prepare for the next farming cycle.
Amid the rising waters, farmers are moving through flooded fields, trying to collect surviving vegetables and protect what remains of their harvest. Their struggle reflects the growing challenges faced by rural communities during extreme weather events.
With more rain expected, affected farmers are seeking support and assistance to recover from the losses. For them, every rescued crop represents a small hope of rebuilding what the floods have taken away.
