Senior IRS Officer Dr. D. Sudhakara Rao Takes Over as Odisha Income Tax Chief Commissioner

Bhubaneswar,Apr 14 (BNP): Senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Dr. D. Sudhakara Rao, 1990 batch, has assumed charge today as the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (PCCIT) for the Odisha Region at Bhubaneswar.

An officer of distinguished service, Dr. Rao brings with him decades of extensive administrative and leadership experience across multiple regions, including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Karnataka, Puducherry, Kerala, and Maharashtra. He is presently also holding the additional charge of Principal Chief Commissioner for the Bihar and Jharkhand regions.

Hailing from Telangana, Dr. Rao holds an M.Phil. in Environmental Sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. His appointment comes in the wake of a recent CBDT-level reshuffle involving senior IRS officers at the Principal Chief Commissioner rank.

Known for his dynamic leadership and administrative acumen, Dr. Rao is expected to further strengthen tax administration, compliance mechanisms, and overall operational efficiency of the Income Tax Department in Odisha. His vast field experience is anticipated to provide renewed impetus to revenue mobilisation and taxpayer facilitation in the region.

Outside his professional responsibilities, Dr. Rao is an avid sports enthusiast with a keen interest in badminton and golf.

He is married to Smt. D. Padma Jyothi, former Member of Legislative Assembly from the Thiruvuru constituency in Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh. The couple has two children—a son and a daughter—both MBA graduates from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode.
