Bhubaneswar, Aug 17 [UDN}:With the arrival of the holy month of Shravana, the demand for seasonal Shravana mushrooms has been steadily increasing in the Umerkote area of Nabarangpur district. The mushrooms are currently being sold in local markets at prices ranging from around ₹600 to ₹1,000, and a large number of people are showing keen interest in purchasing them.
The Shravana mushroom, found naturally in the forests of the tribal-dominated Umerkote region, is a seasonal forest produce. It appears in the forests only during a particular period of the Shravana month. Owing to its distinctive taste and flavour, the mushroom enjoys considerable popularity among local consumers.
Several tribal families collect these mushrooms from the forests and bring them to local markets for sale. As a result, the Shravana mushroom has become more than just a favourite seasonal delicacy; it has also emerged as an important source of livelihood and income for many tribal families.
While tribal communities are earning a good income by collecting and selling this seasonal forest produce, markets in the region are also witnessing a noticeable rush of customers eager to purchase and savour the unique Shravana mushroom.
