Nabarangpur,Aug 3 [UDN}:: The Electoral Roll Observer for Nabarangpur and Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises, Mohammad Sadiq Alam, visited Nabarangpur district for the second time on Tuesday to review the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
During the review, he instructed officials to ensure that the electoral roll remains clean, accurate, error-free, and transparent, and directed them to complete all revision-related work within the prescribed timeline as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
A detailed review meeting was held at the Ashok Mehta Conference Hall, where discussions focused on electoral roll revision, disposal of claims and objections, distribution of Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs), registration of new young voters, and disposal of online public grievances.
As part of his visit, Mohammad Sadiq Alam also inspected Bhatarasiuni Gram Panchayat under Nabarangpur Block and several locations within the Nabarangpur Municipality to assess the field-level implementation of the revision process.
Officials informed the Observer that the District Election Officer (DEO) and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) are continuously monitoring applications submitted through the ERONET system, including Forms 6, 6A, 7, and 8. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are conducting door-to-door surveys, and as of July 27, a total of 494 Form-8 applications had been received for corrections in the electoral roll.
The administration has also completed re-verification of the 20 polling stations with the highest additions and deletions in each Assembly constituency. No applications under Form-6A have been received so far from Non-Resident Indian (NRI) voters.
Officials stated that all claims and objections are being disposed of carefully and transparently. Notices are being issued wherever required, acknowledgements are uploaded through the BLO App, all concerned parties are provided an opportunity to be heard, and relevant records are being preserved at both the BLO and Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) levels.
Regarding the distribution of EPICs, officials informed that 39,710 voter identity cards printed during the previous year have already been distributed. Another 15,542 EPICs, expected from the new printing vendor, will be distributed immediately upon receipt. Poor-quality photographs in the electoral rolls are also being identified and corrected through Form-8 applications.
The review further revealed that 5,817 new young voters have been registered across the district. Their constituency-wise distribution includes:
Umerkote – 966
Jharigaon – 1,390
Nabarangpur – 1,740
Dabugaon – 1,721
Public grievances received through ERONET, the Voter Helpline App, the NGSP Portal, and the 1950 Call Centre are being resolved within the prescribed time limit.
Officials also informed that cases of duplicate voter registration in neighbouring border districts are being identified and reported to the higher authorities for necessary action.
The meeting was attended by District Collector and District Election Officer Maheshwar Swain, Additional District Magistrate (General) Pramod Prusti, Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Biswajit Barman, Chief Development Officer Biranchi Narayan Daraban, Sub-Collector Prakash Mishra, Deputy Collector (Election) Chinmaya Sahu, all EROs, AEROs, and other district officials.
