Kotpad,July 9 [UDN}:Van Mahotsav (Forest Festival) was celebrated at the premises of Government Girls’ High School, Kotpad, with great enthusiasm to promote environmental conservation and tree plantation. The programme was conducted under the guidance of teacher Rati Mahanti and was attended by Headmistress Damayanti Sahu, Physical Education Teacher Prabhasini Mal, Priyadarshini Mandal, Saita Golari, Sasmita Randhar, and other staff members.
During the programme, students took a pledge to care for each sapling they planted until it grew into a mature tree. Various species of trees were planted as part of the plantation drive. The participants appreciated the Prime Minister’s “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, which aims to make India greener and more environmentally sustainable.
Students from the school’s Eco Club, Red Cross, and Guides actively participated in the plantation programme. School Management Committee Chairman Sudhar Mahanti, Kotpad Forest Range Officer Gobinda Chandra Nayak, Deputy Forest Range Officer Manas Ranjan Nayak, Forester Sudam Satpathy, and Forester Sudipta Nayak also attended the event.
The forest officials explained the importance of trees, the objectives of Van Mahotsav, and the need to protect forests. Emphasising the message “Protect Forests, Protect Life,” they encouraged students to actively contribute to environmental conservation and inspired them to become responsible guardians of nature. The programme concluded successfully with a collective commitment to safeguarding the environment for future generations.
