Bhubaneswar, Mar, 20: Though the old government has been replaced by a new one, the issues of outsourcing employees remain unresolved. Despite repeatedly informing the government and staging protests, they have only received assurances. For many years, no concrete solution has emerged.
In protest against this, the Odisha Government Outsourcing Employees Federation staged a demonstration on Gandhi Marg on Tuesday. Employees working in almost all departments of the government participated in the agitation. The Federation announced that from Wednesday onwards, employees will boycott all official work and intensify their protest.
The Odisha Outsourcing Federation has demanded permanent appointments, an end to retrenchment, reinstatement of retrenched employees, and the implementation of a unified system covering outsourcing and daily wage workers. Protesters raised slogans such as, “Give permanent jobs, stop retrenchment” and declared a complete work boycott from today.
More than 20,000 employees of the Federation reportedly joined the sit-in protest. Under the leadership of Federation advisor Prabhat Mohanty, thousands of workers marched in a massive rally from Master Canteen Square to Lower PMG, where they staged a dharna (sit-in demonstration).
The Federation stated that the agitation will continue until their demands are fulfilled. The protest also received support from Mahanadi Bachao Andolan convener Sudarshan Das, Bijay Mall, Parents’ Association leader Basudev Bhatta, and Prasanna Bisoyi, informed Federation President Sanjay Pattnaik.
