Puri, July 9 (UDN): The Grand Road (Bada Danda) in Puri has been transformed into a vibrant canvas of Odisha’s traditional Jhoti-Chita art as artists put the finishing touches to elaborate decorative motifs ahead of Rath Yatra 2026.
Created by skilled local artists using age-old indigenous techniques, the intricate white patterns and traditional designs have added a distinct cultural and spiritual charm to the ceremonial route along which the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra will travel during the world-famous festival.
The colourful decorations celebrate Odisha’s rich artistic heritage while enhancing the devotional atmosphere of the holy city. The traditional Jhoti-Chita artwork, an integral part of the state’s cultural identity, reflects themes of prosperity, auspiciousness and devotion, making it an important feature of Rath Yatra preparations.
Temple authorities and the district administration have undertaken extensive beautification efforts to ensure that Puri presents a welcoming and spiritually uplifting ambience for the lakhs of devotees and visitors expected to participate in the annual chariot festival.
